Remembering Chris: A Musical Celebration

Chris Luyendijk
, as well as being a much-loved and much-admired friend, son, husband and brother, was an esteemed musician and
songwriter, writing and releasing music under a number of different pseudonyms. From the fun-filled blend of hip-hop and classic rock of his early days as Chris Cape, through an oceanic concept album under the name Lava Kiss, to the subtle poetic mastery of his folkloric-inspired acoustic music in his later years as Chris Willow, he evolved constantly as an artist, and left behind an extensive and inspiring repertoire.

At the beginning of his career, Chris performed frequently at The Boileroom, and shared many happy times there with his friends and musical peers (he would often refer to this period of his musical journey as ‘the golden era’). Therefore, in what promises to be an emotional and unforgettable night, his friends and family are reuniting at this hallowed venue to celebrate and perform his music, as well as songs written for him, and inspired by him. Expect recreations of old favourites such as ‘Give it a Try’ and ‘Jim Carrey’ as well as performances of more recent tracks from his Lava Kiss and Chris Willow canon.

During his life, Chris endured a long and painful battle with depression; one which he confronted with dignity, courage and grace. He was a supporter of Mind, and as such, all proceeds from this event will be donated to this fantastic mental health charity who campaign for much needed improvements in mental health care provision in the U.K.

Chris’ most recent work was created under the name Chris Willow. This music emphasises sharp and focussed song writing, while interlacing carefully crafted guitar playing and production. It is infused with self-assessment and exploration, touching on themes of mysticism, existential angst, theology, and folkloric-inspired poetry.

His recent album, On Top of Rocks and Sand, is being released track by track on the 22nd of each month. Follow Chris Willow on Spotify, and across digital platforms, to be notified of the new releases.
